    Baldwin not looking past SEA Games foes despite Gilas cadet a heavy bet for the gold

    TAB Baldwin knows the pool of talent he has in his disposal with the Gilas Pilipinas cadet.

    But he’s definitely not looking past the rest of the field despite the Filipinos emerging once again as the heavy favorites to win the gold medal in the basketball competition of the 28th Southeast Asian Games.

    “I’m not a guy who predicts outcomes. I know what the expectations from the team are and that’s what our goal is,” said Baldwin prior to the departure of the team to Singapore on Saturday afternoon.

    “We have to play each game in its merits, respect our opponents, and if we don’t do that we’re not doing our job properly so that’s what we intend to do,” he added.

    But Baldwin admitted the ultimate goal is retaining the cage gold, which the country has not lost grip since 1991.

    “To win a gold,” was his straightforward answer when asked what the team is aiming for.

    “That’s what’s expected of us by our management, by the basketball public. And our expectations would be no less than what the people expect of us,” he added.

    Two months of training is enough to mold the talented team into a cohesive unit, said Baldwin.

    “I’d say we’re ready to go to the SEA Games and play good basketball,” he added.

    Composing the team are a selection of UAAP and NCAA standouts led by Kiefer Ravena, Kevin Ferrer, Mac Belo, Troy Rosario, Almond Vosotros, Norbert Torres, Prince Rivero, Baser Amer, Giovanni Jalalon, Scott Thompson, and naturalized player Marcus Douthit.
