PROBLEMS keep on piling up in the football competition of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Men's football matches slated on Monday are in danger of being moved from Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila to the Binan Football Stadium in Laguna.

Sources bared the refurbishment of the near-century old Rizal sports facility may not meet the deadline despite matches already scheduled to start on Monday.

Malaysia, the silver medalist of the 2017 edition, was set to open the festivities against Myanmar at 4 p.m., while the Philippine Azkals will take on Cambodia at 8 p.m. all at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Binan was originally scheduled to host only matches in the women's football tournament which opens on Tuesday.

The same sources said that the organizers have until 7 p.m. to decide whether to push through with holding the matches in Manila or transfer these to Binan.

Teams have already faced problems the moment they arrived in the country, facing issues with their transportation and billeting.
