UNABLE to defend her gold in the Southeast Asian Games, cyclist Marella Salamat turns her attention to other events slated in the biennial meet in Kuala Lumpur this year.
Salamat is looking to see action in the massed start event, the road race and the criterium, after the individual time trial (ITT) was scrapped for this year’s SEA Games in Malaysia.
Salamat ruled the ITT in the 2015 SEA Games, the lone gold for the Philippines from cycling in the biennial meet held in Singapore, but that event has been scratched.
Salamat is determined to again win gold anew.
“At first, nalungkot ako na wala ‘yung event na linalaruan ko. Pero I’m willing to train for the massed start,” said Salamat, who topped a stage in a cycling race in Malaysia recently.
“Medyo mahirap pero unti-unti, tinutulungan ako ng coach ko to develop ‘yung skills ko sa sprint,” said Salamat.
