SPORTS fans get a glimpse of the action in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar on local free television as the matches of the Philippine men's basketball team and women's football squad will be shown on Studio 23.
The announcement was made on ABS-CBN Sports’ official Twitter account.
Before the announcement, the Philippine Olympic Committee bared that there will be no television coverage of the SEA Games in Myanmar due to the absence of interested parties.
The men’s basketball squad is expected to be the top draw to Filipino fans as it will have several members of Gilas cadet along with several collegiate stars, mostly from the UAAP.
The women’s football team, called the Malditas, will also get a share if the limelight.
Absent from the SEA games, however, is another popular squad in the Under-23 Azkals, which failed to get the nod from the joint POC and Philippine Sports Commission Task Force despite pleas from the Philippine Football Federation.
Two years ago, ABS-CBN Sports and Sports5 aired the 2011 Indonesia SEA Games including several other sports aside from basketball and football.
There are 33 sports calendared in the Myanmar SEA Games.
Gilas Pilipinas will start off their campaign in the round-robin tournament on December 9 against Singapore in Naypyitaw, while the Malditas go up against host Myanmar on December 10 at the start of the preliminaries in Mandalay.
