SUBIC, Zambales — Runner up no more.
The Philippines’ bets Samuel German and Princess Arbilon copped the gold in the mixed relay beach laser-run portion of the 30th Southeast Asian Games modern pentathlon on Thursday at Subic Boardwalk.
Coming off a heartbreaker in their respective events earlier in the day, the duo from Ormoc City, Leyte made sure to end their SEA Games campaign with a gold medal.
Samuel, who won silver in the men’s individual beach laser division, and Arbilon, who came in fourth in the distaff side, earlier in the day, clocked 13:27.34.
"Sabi namin babawi kami sa relay kasi talo kami sa individuals kanina," said Samuel.
"Hindi ko inexpect na makaka-gold kami kasi fourth lang ako sa individuals," added Arbilon. "Nag-focus lang kami sa pag-ayos ng aming mga mali kanina."
Meanwhile, Muktapa Changhin and Narong Deck Taparak of Thailand settled for silver with a time of 13:28.32.
Winning the bronze were Cintya Nariska and Frada Saleh of Indonesia (13:59.54).
In the individual events, Indonesia’s Muhammad Taufik and Dea Salsabila ruled the men's and women's individual events, respectively.
