SINGAPORE — Rubilen Amit and Chezka Centeno will treat their final showdown in the 28th Southeast Asian Games as just another game after assuring the Philippines of a gold medal in the women’s 9-ball event.

Amit and Centeno will fight for the gold on Tuesday, 1 p.m. at the OCBC Arena Hall 4, but the two said there will be no animosity involved as they also happen to be roommates here.

“At least, nasa Pilipinas ang ginto. ‘Yun ang pinakamasayang part,” said the 33-year-old Amit.

The all-Filipina final was arranged when Amit beat Aung Aye Mi of Myanmar, 7-2, and Centeno won over Chitchomnart Siraphat of Thailand, 7-5, in the semifinal stage.

When asked about their final match, Amit kidded that she will offer Centeno an alcoholic beverage before they sleep.

Kidding aside, Amit said they will treat it as just another day in the office.

“Wala, normal lang,” said Amit, as they gamely posed for photos for a few Filipino scribes as if they were in a boxing match. “Kung practice, practice. Kung laro, laro. Kung sino ang mabigyan ng breaks, siya ang mag-gogold.”

“Happy na ako na dalawang Pilipino (ang nasa finals),” said the soft-spoken Centeno, 15.

Amit and Centeno assured the Philippines a second gold in billiards following the victory of Carlo Biado and Warren Kiamco in the men’s 9-ball doubles.
