FOR the first time, the exterior of the Rizal Memorial Coliseum was illuminated on Friday night as renovation at the historic venue is about to be completed for the 30th Southeast Asian Games
A photo sent by Aizzabelle Rose Reynales to SPIN.ph showed major parts of the Rizal Coliseum now seen by the public after some of the enclosures around the perimeter were removed.

The venue was lighted as well as the refurbished lobby that also has the new logo of Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Built in 1934, the Rizal Memorial Coliseum got its much-needed facelift recently after the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) was able to secure the needed funding from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

The coliseum was home to historic battles in the Micaa, UAAP and NCAA. It also hosted a few PBA games and was the satellite venue when the country hosted the 1978 World Basketball Championship.
The Rizal Coliseum will also be the venue for gymnastics competitions of the SEA Games. Although there are still work going on inside the coliseum, sources said set-ups for the gymnastics event in the biennial meet can already be done in the next few days.
