SUBIC, Zambales — Mission accomplished for Rambo Chicano.
The 28-year-old Chicano ruled the 30th Southeast Asian Games men's triathlon on Sunday at Subic Bay Boardwalk.
The Olongapo City native, who finished second in the 2017 edition, copped his first gold medal in the biennial meet as he clocked one hour, 53 minutes and 26 seconds.

“Sobrang saya po syempre unang gold para sa Pilipinas, sobrang blessed po. Nagpapasalamat ako sa Panginoon at sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa triathlon,” said Chicano, who kicked off the country’s bid for gold medals.
“Sobrang saya na parang di ako makapaniwala pa rin mindset ko na mapakalas naming talaga yung Indonesia kasi nandon siya samin all throughout,” he added.
It was another 1-2 finish for the Philippines as Andrew Kim Remolino took the silver medal with a time of 1:55:03.
In the 2017 SEA Games, Nikko Huelgas copped the gold, while Chicano bagged the silver.
“Nasa winning position na po talaga ang bansa kasi ‘yun po talaga ang goal namin na makuha na makuha ang gold at silver,” said Remolino. “Talagang ilalagay ko namin ang mga sarili namin sa winning position po talaga palagi.”
Muhammad Ahlul Firman of Indonesia took the bronze medal as he clocked 1:57:10.
