SINGAPORE – A head-turner back home, Rachel Anne Daquis is also proving to be a big hit in the 28th Southeast Asian Games here.
The lovely Filipina volleybelle was easily the most sought after player by foreign media from the Philippine women’s team, which bowed to Indonesia in the opener of the volleyball competitions on Wednesday.
Daquis' looks and skills immediately caught the attention of the working press as she was sought for interviews in the mixed zone by reporters from Thailand, where volleyball is very popular.
Photographers also clicked away at the former Far Eastern University stalwart, who was once an FHM cover girl back home.
Daquis’ image was also included in a billboard featuring athletes from other countries as part of the host’ effort to drumbeat the SEA Games.
Likewise sought out by foreign media was Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) secretary general Ricky Palou to get the country’s side regarding the protest it lodged against controversial volleyball player April Manganang.
