THE Philippine Sports Commission will be spending P86 million for the country's participation in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.
PSC chairman William Ramirez said the amount, which was approved by the board recently, covers airfare, accommodation, uniforms, and allowances of the Philippine delegation that includes 497 athletes.
The amount is outside the budget the PSC has set aside for athletes' other needs like equipment, training camps, and competitions locally and internationally.
Ramirez said the PSC will continue to support the national athletes even though it has concentrated on the grassroots development program.
"As promised, we shall continue to back our national athletes," Ramirez said in a statement. "Even if the PSC is now training its sights on grassroots sports, our elite athletes will always have our support."
"While we recognize that the POC and the NSAs take care of their training and preparation, the government through the PSC will always lend assistance to get them up to the level they needed to be," he added.
