Rivero brothers Prince and Ricci fly the flag for Team PH in two different time zones

    Jun 9, 2015

SINGAPORE — In a span of just a few days, two Riveros will be playing forthe national team in two basketball competitions across the world.

In Europe, La Salle Greenhills’ Ricci Rivero joined Kobe Paras, Mike Nieto, and Richard Escoto, in the Philippine team that competed in the Fiba 3x3 Under-18 Championship in Debrecen, Hungary.

Closer to home, his older brother Prince Rivero is part of the national team that will be defending the men's basketball gold medal in the 28th Southeast Asian Games here.

Prince Rivero, who plays for the La Salle Green Archers, said he is happy to see his younger brother get to experience playing in the world championship, as he first did two years ago in Bangkok.

“Hindi ako sanay dahil ako ‘yung nandoon dati. Pero nung nabalitaan ko, masaya ako dahil ‘yun ‘yung fruit of his labor and sacrifice na ginawa niya, ‘yung hardwork, ‘yung extra work,” said Rivero.

“Masaya kami (family) para sa kanya,” he added.

Now that Ricci’s campaign in the Fiba Under-18 World Championship is done, it’s now Prince’s turn to represent the country in the SEA Games, a moment the former Philippine youth team member truly cherishes.

“Iba na dito dahil dati 18, 16 ang nakakalaban ko. Ngayon, sobrang taas na ng level na ‘to. It’s an honor to play for the country. Siguro ganun din (katulad ni Ricci), fruit of my labor," Prince said.

"Fair naman si God, hindi niya ibibigay sa akin ‘yung hindi ko kaya."
