KUALA LUMPUR - The Philippines dropped a 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 loss to Thailand on Saturday morning in the semifinals of the 29th Southeast Asian Games women's volleyball tournament at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre Hall 11.

The Pinay spikers kept the match close in the first set before being completely overwhelmed by a powerhouse Thai side which moved to the gold-medal game in a tournament its is heavily favored to win.

The Philippines, on the other hand, was relegated to the battle for the bronze medal on Sunday against the loser of the other semifinal between Vietnam and Indonesia.

The Philippines stayed within striking distance in the first set only for Thailand to pull off crucial points to take a 22-19 lead - enough a cushion to put the set away.

There was no stopping the Thais from there.
