CHONBURI, Thailand – The Philippines conceded two late goals to lose to Vietnam, 2-0, in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games men’s football semifinals at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
The PMNT Under-22 team’s magical run ended after a header by Le Van Thuan in the 88th minute, and an insurance goal from Nguyen Thanh Nhan in the 92nd just off the edge of the box.
The Philippines was aiming for a place in the gold medal match after sweeping Group C with victories over Myanmar, 2-0, and defending champion Indonesia, 1-0, in Chiang Mai.
The loss relegated the Pinoy U-22 booters to the bronze medal match where it will meet the loser of the Thailand-Malaysia tussle held later in the night.
