THE Philippine bowling team finally made its breakthrough in the 30th Southeast Asian Games as the men’s squad won silver medal and the women a bronze in the Team of 4 on Friday at the Coronado Lanes in Starmall EDSA.
After going empty-handed in the first four days, the hosts finally reached the podium when Merwin Tan, Patrick Nuqui, Frederick Ong and Kenneth Chua earned the silver medal with 4937 pinfalls in a six-game series.
Malaysia's Rafiq Ismail, Tun Hakim, Timmy Tan and Ahmad Muaz took the gold on 4890, while Thais Atchariya Cheng, Surasak Manuwong, Annop Arromsaranon and Yannaphon Larpapharat settled for the bronze with 4896.
Meanwhile, Bea Hernandez, Lara Posadas-Wong, Alexis Sy and Liza Del Rosario failed to sustain its pace in Game 5 but still finished with a bronze medal after collecting 4735 pinfalls.
Singapore’s Daphne Tan, New Hui Fen, Shayna Ng and Cherie Tan won gold with 4833 pinfalls, while Malaysia’s Ester Cheah, Sin Li Jane, Shalin Zulkifli and Siti Safiyah Amirah got the silver with 4803.
