SUBIC, Zambales — Filipina beach volleyball bets are on a must-win situation after falling short against Thailand in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the converted Subic Tennis Court on Tuesday.

Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons bowed to Thailand’s Varapatsorn Radarong and Khanittha Hongpak took Game One, 26-24, 25-15.

In Game Two, Dzi Gervacio and Dij Rodriguez put up a gallant stand against Rumpaipruet Numwong and Tanarattha Udomchavee but the Thais proved too much for the Pinay spikers, 21-16, 21-14.

“Kumbaga experience ‘yung nangyari,” said Rondina. “Mas pulido sila pag dating ng dikdikan. We’re blessed na nakita namin paano tayo sumabay sa ibang teams.”

Thailand remained undefeated after four games, while the Philippines slid to 2-2.

According to beach volleyball coach Paul John Dolorias, the Philippines must win its match against Singapore in straight sets to snatch the bronze medal.

“Alam namin na lalaban at lalaban ‘yang Singapore. Mas ano sila, mas beterano sa mga galawan. Programa pa lang expected na, maganda programa nila,” said Rondina.

“Pero syempre ‘di tayo papatalo dyan sa Singapore. Medalya na pag-uusapan dyan sa Dec. 6,” added the four-time UAAP beach volleyball champion.
