THE Philippines romped to a 15-2 win over Thailand to capture the gold medal in the baseball competitions of the 30th Southeast Asian Games at The Villages in Clark, Pampanga.
The Filipino batters captured their third baseball gold in the SEA Games including the first edition in 2005 when the team played in front of a capacity crowd at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The national baseball team was already up 3-0 after the first inning when they connected on four more to put the game out of reach.
“The whole team is deserving of this gold medal,” said Philippine Amateur Baseball Association president Chito Loyzaga. “They sacrificed, prepared and trained hard for this tournament.
“The Paba Board and the baseball community are proud of their accomplishment. We look forward to the East Asia Cup next year as a qualifying tournament for BFA Asian Baseball Championship 2021 and as an early preparation for the Asian Games 2022,” Loyzaga added.
The members of the baseball team are Adriane Bernardo, Erwin Bosito, Francis Michael Gesmundo, Francis Gesmundo, Ferdinand Liguayan, Juan Diego Lozano, Juan Alvaro Macasaet, Mark Manaig, Jennald Pareja, Jerome Yenson, Jonash Ponce, Dino Altomonte, Clarence Lyle Caasalan and Bryan Castillo.
