KUALA LUMPUR - The Philippines won a lone gold medal on Monday in the 29th Southeast Asian Games as the campaign begins to wind down with the country still way off its targeted medal predictions.

Colin Syquia won a gold medal in the individual showjumping on Monday, the country's only mint of the day with only two days left before the biennial meet formally ends on Wednesday.

The Philippines also captured two silvers and a bronze on Monday to hike their medal total to 23 golds, 30 silvers, and 55 bronzes.

The 23 golds is still very far from the local sports officials target of 50 prior to the start of the SEA Games. Time is also running out with six more gold medals but only two more days to match the output in 2015 in Singapore and 2013 in Myanmar.

Two from taekwondo (Kirstie Alora and Francis Agojo), two in pencak silat (Cherry May Regalado and Dines Dumaan), and one in squash (men's team finals) are still in contention for a gold on Tuesday, which, barring any major performances from other sports, will still be short of the output of the Philippines in the past two editions of the SEA Games.
