Philippine sepak takraw team blows one-set lead, settles for SEA Games silver medal

Jun 15, 2015

SINGAPORE – The Philippines men’s doubles sepak takraw team settled for a silver medal when it lost to Myanmar, 20-22, 21-13, 21-16, on Monday night in the 28th Southeast Asian Games.

The surprising run of the men’s doubles team of Jason Huerte, Emmanuel Escote, and Rheyjey Ortouste ended at the hands of Myanmar which rebounded strongly after the loss of the opening set.

The result denied Philippines in one of its last remaining chances of adding to its 28-gold haul going to the Gilas cadets men’s basketball final against Indonesia at the OCBC Arena.

Still, it was a satisfactory result for the Philippine team considering that it only consistently had bronze medals in the SEA Games.

Huerte, Escote, and Ortouste topped Pool B with a 2-0 win-loss slate, then beat host Singapore in the semifinal match, 2-1.
