THE Philippines will play for the gold medal in baseball and women’s softball after victories on Friday at The Villages in Clark, Pampanga.
The Filipino batters beat Indonesia, 14-1, on Friday to complete a 4-0 sweep of the elimination round while the Blu Girls women’s softball team blanked Malaysia, 12-0, in the page system semifinal.
The Filipino batters attacked early and scored four runs in the first inning to set up the lopsided affair to finish the eliminations with a 4-0 record.
The Philippines now await the winner of the Thailand and Indonesia match on Saturday to determine which team they will be facing in the gold medal match on Sunday.
The Nationals are eyeing their third gold medal after winning the inaugurals at home in 2005 and in 2011 in Palembang.
Both Thailand and Indonesia are holding a 2-1 record heading into their critical match on Saturday.
The Blu Boys men’s softball team, meanwhile, lost to Singapore, 4-3, in the page system semifinal but will still have one shot at the final when they face Indonesia, the winner of which will face Singapore for the gold.
