SINGAPORE - The Philippines trounced Malaysia, 100-48, on Thursday for its second win in the 28th Southeast Asian Games men's basketball competitions at the OCBC Arena.

Almond Vosotros had 21 points and converted the three-pointer that allowed Gilas cadets to hit the century mark in a fitting follow-up to their opening win over Indonesia on Wednesday.

This performance, however, was far more impressive than the 81-52 conquest of the Indonesians, with the Filipinos finally putting in the defense that national coach Tab Baldwin had long demanded.

Troy Rosario scored 12 of his 18 points in the first half when the Gilas cadets established control against Malaysia - the last team to beat the Philippines in the SEA Games back in the 1989 edition in Kuala Lumpur.

    The scores:

    Philippines (100) — Vosotros 21, Rosario 18, Douthit 12, Ravena 8, Torres 8, Khobuntin 7, Belo 7, Thompson 6, Amer 6, Rivero 5, Ferrer 2.

    Malaysia (48)—Yeo 10, Soo 9, Kwaan 5, Liaw 4, Choong 4, Wong 4, Kuek 4, Koh 3, Choo 2, Ma 2, Tan 1, Tong 0.

    Quarterscores: 20-9, 48-20, 75-35, 100-48.
