Perlas Pilipinas' gold-medal hopes dented after SEA Games loss to Indonesia

Jun 12, 2015

SINGAPORE - Perlas Pilipinas' hopes for a first-ever gold medal dimmed after it lost to Indonesia, 61-56, on Friday in the 28th Southeast Asian Games women's basketball tournament at the OCBC Arena.

The Philippines opened a 21-8 lead after the first quarter but faded in the next two periods, getting outscored by Indonesia, 37-17, which gained control and never let up.

The loss was a painful blow to the Filipina cagers, who, after an opening loss to Thailand, got a new lease on life after the reigning champions lost to Malaysia on Wednesday evening.

Perlas evened its record to 2-2.

The scores:

Indonesia (61) — Christaline 19, Sophia 18, Herawan 14, Putri 5, Rohtriastari 2, Anggraini 2, Ibo 1, Retong 0.

Philippines (56) — Palmera 12, Bernardino 11, Almazan 7, Lim 7, Gupilan 7, Arayi 6, Sambile 4, Bernardo 0, Jose 0, Castro 0.

Quarterscores: 9-21, 27-29, 46-38, 61-56.
