MEDALS were elusive for the Philippine Speed Skating Team, falling out of the podium in both divisions of the 500-Meter Short Track Speed on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at the SM Megamall Ice Skating Rink.
Thailand’s Natthapat Kancharin snagged gold in the men’s division, clocking in with a time of 43.763 seconds to narrowly edge Steaveanus Whardja of Indonesia who finished with 44.604 seconds. Kancharin’s compatriot Triphop Thongngam snagged bronze with a time of 51.810.
The Philippines’ Marc Gonzales finished sixth after clocking at the 44.327 mark while Kyle Macaraeg wasn’t so lucky, crashing in the final 110 meters to finish with a time of 59.504.
Over at the women’s division, Singapore’s Cheyenne Goh took home the gold medal by clocking in at 46.421 - a full second ahead Malaysia’s Dione Tan Dione which finished with a time of 47.594.
Anja Chong of Malaysia completed the podium, with a time of 47.657.
Kayla Gonzales, the lone representative of the country in the event, finished sixth with a time of 51.888.
The ladies relay team also suffered the same fate as their counterpart from the singles event, falling out of a podium finish in the final event of the day.
The team composed of Kayla Gonzales, Anna Cruz, Xsandrie Guimba and Kathryn Magno finished fourt in the team competition with a time of five minutes and 26.058 seconds.
Malaysia was head and shoulders above everyone as they clocked in at 4:53.235, more than 10 minutes ahead of the silver medalists in Indonesia which logged in a time of 5:03.758.
Singapore rounded up the podium, with a time of 5:12.447.
