PH men’s spikers set to sustain gains as LVPI plots more foreign training camps

    Alinsunurin: 'Nagsisimula pa lang kami'
    Dec 11, 2019

LARONG Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. sets its sights on future international tournaments for the Philippine men’s volleyball team.

After the Filipino spikers won the hearts of many with a silver-medal finish in the 30th South East Asian Games, the program to bring the national team to new heights continues.

LVPI national program head Peter Cayco bared to reporters that this core of men’s national volleyball squad will continue training and competing overseas.

But the federation has yet to come up with specific tournaments and countries as the team continues to cherish its silver medal that was 42 years in the making.

“Sila coach maghahanap sila. Tournaments tapos, sa 2020 another foreign training kasi malayo pa naman 'yung next SEA Games,” Cayco said. “Titignan pa. Magme-meet kami siguro third week of January, plot natin buong taon.”

National team head coach Dante Alinsunurin is happy that they continue to achieve their dreams from winning a podium finish in the SEA Games, earning the respect of the fans and continuous progress for this squad.

“Yun ang hinihiling din namin na magtuluy-tuloy ang team na mag-training kasi importante talaga sa amin yun lalo na nasisimula pa lang kami,” Alinsunurin said. “Siyempre kung gusto talaga naming iangat ang laro namin kailangan talaga namin na January mag-start na kami [ng training]. Sana tuluy-tuloy na talaga.”

The consistent eight-month training of the Filipino Spikers — highlighted by a bronze-medal finish in the Thailand Tuna Sealect Open Tournament and Japan training camp— has paid off.

That’s why Cayco and LVPI won’t stop supporting this squad to keep on conquering new heights.

“People didn't believe na ang men's ang magkaka-medal, so I said, tignan niyo, we'll pull some surprises,” Cayco said.
