DETHRONED champions Philippines vented its ire on Malaysia with a 17-1 drubbing on Sunday in the 30th Southeast Asian Games to settle for the bronze medal in the ice hockey competitions at SM MOA Skating Rink.
It was a fine finish for the Eagles, who suffered a bitter 4-3 defeat to Singapore in the semifinals.
John Steven Fuglister scored four goals and three assists, while Kenneth Stern added four of his own as they put on one final show for the home fans.
Jann Gefrey So Tiong, Jan Aro Regencia, and Lenard Lancero all scored two goals apiece, while BJ Imperial, Samuel Bengzon and Carl Michael Montano added one apiece in the dominant victory.
It was a total annihilation on the part of the Filipinos, starting with So Tiong's conversion at the 5:23 mark on what would be the first of four first period goals.
Seven more was added in the second period, where Fuglister completed on a hat-trick in one frame.
The Philippines threw 65 shots on goal and was in total control of the match, save for the final minute when Maahes Rajakumar scored with 16 seconds left before the final horn to help Malaysia avert being shut out.
