THE Philippines is sending at least 451 athletes to the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore from June 5 to 16.
Thirty four in the initial list are softball players, athletics also has 34, listed under water polo are 26, rugby sevens has 24, while the basketball and volleyball federations also have 24 players each.
Julian Camacho, the country’s chief of mission to the SEA Games, said the country will compete in 34 out of the 36 sports calendared.
Fan favorites basketball and volleyball also have 24 players each, while the football team has 20 members.
Archery has 16 athletes, swimming has 15, while sending 12 players each are billiards and snooker, bowling, wushu and netball.
Two Filipinos are entered in synchronized swimming.
Camacho said they the total number of athletes can still be adjusted as floorball has appealed to be considered to the delegation and its appeal most likely be approved by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
The POC will meet on Wednesday to determine the final names of athletes who will join Team Philippines in the biennial meet.
The participation of 399 athletes will be funded by the Philippine Sports Commission while 52 will be backed by private sponsors.
