THE Philippines is sending 497 athletes from 38 sports to the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco on Wednesday signed the final list of athletes, to be submitted to the Malaysia Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Masco) during its executive council meeting.
POC official Tom Carrasco said 163 coaches and 70 administrative and medical staff have also been approved to join the team, raising the Philippine delegation total to 730.
In the 2015 Singapore SEA Games, the Philippines sent 466 athletes in 35 sports, winning 29 gold medals and finishing sixth in the medal tally.
Philippine sports officials are aiming for 40 to 50 gold medals and a fourth-place finish in Kuala Lumpur.
The POC will also send the final list of athletes to the Philippine Sports Commission for funding.
