THE Philippine Blu Girls, as expected, won the gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games, beating Indonesia, 8-0, on Sunday in women’s softball at The Villages in Clark, Pampanga.
The Blu Girls scored all their eight runs in the second inning to win the gold in the SEA Games for the 10th time.
The Philippines won all four of its preliminary matches by an average margin of 8.5 runs and giving up just two.
The women’s softball team beat Malaysia, 12-0, in the page system playoff, with Indonesia beating Malaysia, 5-1, to advance in the championship game.
The Blu Boys were not as fortunate as they settled for a silver medal following a 6-1 loss to Singapore in the final.
The Philippines thus fell short in its bid to sweep the SEA Games softball competition for the first time since 2013.
