SUBIC, Zambales — Alfau Jan Abad and Almohaidib Abad fell short of a Southeast Asian Games gold medal in the ganda male event of the pencak silat at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.
The Abad brothers, whose routine was firm and soulful, was beaten in the tiebreaker by eventual gold medalist Hamid Mohd Taqiyyudin and Yuga Sazlan of Malaysia.
The Philippines and Malaysia garnered a similar score of 564 points, while Khounchaleun Amphonh and Singsouvong Alisack of Laos scored 562 points settled for the bronze medal.
“Sa ngayon mabuti po na nakasilver kami kahit tie ‘yung score namin pero para samin alam ko kami ‘yung gold pero nadale lang kami sa time namin,” said the elder Alfau Jan.

Still Alfau Jan still considered their silver medal finish a blessing.
“Sa totoo lang po, second time naming mag-SEA games kasi nung last time po, pang-sixth lang kami, kami rin po yun [magkapatid], wala pa talagang mga skill yung dati naming moves, kasi ‘yun din ‘yung first event na nasalihan namin,” said Alfau Jan.
“Kaya po after non, training talaga kami. Pinaghandaan naming tong this year, nakiusap kami sa president namin, pinapunta niya kami sa Indonesiya para makapagtraining sa mga foreigner coach namin. Napakalaking bagay po ‘yung naibigay samin,” he added.
Meanwhile, in the regu event, the Philippines settled for just 451 points to and fell out of the podium with just a fourth place finish.
Singapore (466) copped the gold medal, Thailand (458) took silver and Malaysia (453) bagged the bronze.
Earlier in the day, Edmar Tacuel delivered the first gold for pencak silat after ruling the seni tunggal male event.
