VIETNAM caught fire in the final set to hold off the Philippines, 25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 25-20, 8-15, at the start of the 30th Southeast Asian Games women's volleyball competition on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Filipina spikers fought their way back from one-set down and kept Vietnam in sight, 7-8, in the decider, only to see the Vietnamese unleash five unanswered points for a 7-13 spread.
Alyssa Valdez stopped the bleeding but Thi Hue Luu put her team at match point, 14-8, before a Valdez error clinched the match for the visitors.
