FILIPINO figure skaters Alison Krystle Perticheto and Christopher Caluza settled for silver medals in ice skating in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at the SM Megamall rink.
After topping the short program last Friday by garnering a score of 53.65, Perticheto’s performance in free skating was not enough to surpass the 152.67 points set in the second-to-last slot by Singaporean Chloe Ing.
The Fil-Swiss skater finished bridesmaid with a total score of 132.76 points after collecting 79.11 in the free skating.
Ing, who delivered a showstopping free skate performance, earned 102 points in the round lifting her second place finish (50.67) in the short program.
Savika Zahira of Indonesia bagged bronze with a total of 100.8.
Meanwhile, Caluza also bagged the silver medal in senior men’s ice skating as Malaysian Julian Zhi Hie Yee retained his SEA Games crown.
Caluza, a first-timer in the biennial meet, impressed the home crowd with a theatrical performance in free skating to garner a total of 180.22 points.
But it was not enough to beat 2017 gold medalist Yee, who delivered an upbeat free-skating performance to ACDC’s famous 'Highway to Hell' song and earned a score of 139.27 points in the round.
The Malaysian skater completed a golden repeat with a total score of 202.62, following a top finish in the short program (63.34) last Friday.
Caluza finished second both in the short program (62.37) and free skating (117.85). He also surpassed the previous score of fellow Filipino and 2017 SEA Games silver medalist Michael Martinez (171.63).
Thai figure skater Micah Kai Lynette won the bronze with 174.06 points that kicked out other Pinoy Edrian Paul Celestino out of the podium 169.59, failing to sustain his third place finish in the first round.
