THE Philippine polo team earned a shot at the gold medal after 6-4.5 win over Indonesia on Thursday in the 30th Southeast Asian Games mixed 4-6 goals division at the Inigo Zobel Polo Facility in Calatagan, Batangas.
The team of Tomas Vicente Bitong, Stefano Juban, Eduardo Miguel Lopez, and Augustus Aguirre reached the gold medal match after tallying a 2-1 record in the preliminaries.
The host squad will be facing Malaysia for the gold. Malaysia beat Brunei, 8-5.5, in the final preliminary match.
The Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei ended up with a 2-1 win-loss records but the Philippines and Malaysia made it to the finals due to superior goal difference of 4.5, 2.5, and 1, respectively.
The Philippines defeated Malaysia, 8.5-5, in their preliminary match last Wednesday, their first win in the competition.
