PH men's spikers' gallant stand falls short as Indonesia grinds out win to reach SEAG semis

INDONESIA marched on to the semifinals after grinding out a win against the Philippines, 25-21, 23-25, 35-33, 25-21, in the men’s volleyball in the 29th Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 2015 bronze medalist Indonesia improved to a 2-0 win-loss card in the pool stage, while the Philippines absorbed its second loss in as many outings after a straight-set loss to Vietnam.

The Pinoy spikers threatened the Indonesians in the third set when they raced to the first set point, 24-23, and a 33-32 set point only to commit a couple of errors down the stretch.

rom a 17-all, contest after a Mark Alfafara attack, Indonesia pulled away and reached the match point, 24-20.

Philippine skipper Johnvic de Guzman saved the match point with an off the block hit but a sharp cross court kill by Indonesia ended the match.
