THE Philippines claimed three gold medals on the first day of the Southeast Asian Games modern pentathlon test event at the Subic Boardwalk.
Princess Abilon won two gold medals after topping the women’s individual and two-member mixed relay, while Michael Comaling secured the gold in the men’s individual event.
Modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport where competitors see action in fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, combined event of pistol shooting and cross country, and laser run (four legs of laser shooting and 800m run).
Abilon finished the course with a time of 12 minutes, 3.9 seconds to win the individual event. She teamed up with Samuel German with a time of 13:18.87.
Comaling clocked 10:11.59.
Most of the members of Team Philippines are student athletes in Ormoc City.
