Perlas Pilipinas suffers humiliating defeat at hands of defending champion Thailand
Dec 10, 2013

PERLAS Pilipinas' campaign took a shocking turn after getting walloped by defending champion Thailand, 75-36, on Tuesday in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games women’s basketball competitions.

The Filipinas couldn’t get back on their feet after they trailed, 4-18, at the end of the first quarter, absorbing their first loss in two matches in the round-robin five-team tournament.

Thailand bounced back after bowing to the Philippines in the Fiba-Asia Women’s Championship last month in Bangkok.

Juthamas Jantakan had a game-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Thailand, while Chontica Chirdpetcharat added 17 points.

No player from Perlas scored in double figures with Analyn Almazan contributing nine points and 15 rebounds.

The Philippines is actually aiming for a gold in women’s basketball following a credible showing in the Fiba-Asia tournament where it defeated Thailand.

The Thais join Indonesia on top of the standings with a 1-0 card.
