SINGAPORE — The Philippine women’s basketball team defeated Singapore, 82-72, on Monday at the OCBC Arena to end its Southeast Asian Games campaign on a bright note.

The Filipina cagers finished the five-team, single-round tournament with three wins and two losses.

Malaysia, which beat Vietnam, 82-50, bagged the gold medal, while Indonesia claimed the silver and Thailand got bronze.

Annalyn Almazan and Allana May Lim had 17 points each, while Merenciana Arayi added 16.

Shuwen Shery Poon paced the hosts with 17 points, Yukie Yoshida scored 16 and Jia Min Lim added 10.

The Malaysians and Indonesians finished the tournament with identical 4-1 records, but the former took the championship because they beat the latter, 70-45, last week.

Thailand had a 3-2 record, same as the Filipinas, but took the bronze because the Thais won their match, 62-57.

The Nationals failed to gain a podium finish for the first time after bagging a silver medal each in the 2011 Indonesia and 2013 Myanmar SEA Games.
