PERLAS Pilipinas bagged the silver medal in the 27th Southeast Asian Games with a 80-31 victory over host Myanmar on Monday at the close of the women’s basketball tournament at the Zayar Thiri Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw.
The Philippine women’s basketball team took the silver medal after a 3-1 win-loss slate behind Thailand, which successfully defended the gold by winning all four of its matches.
The basketball teams were aiming for a double gold in the competitions but the women’s squad only managed to duplicate its finish two years ago in Jakarta.
The Philippines’ lone defeat came against Thailand via a 36-75 thrashing.
Earlier, the Sinag Pilipinas men’s basketball team captured the gold medal after winning all five games in the round-robin tournament.
