THE Office of the President handed out additional incentives for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games medalist, matching the amount stated under the law.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made the promise during a ceremony honoring the SEA Games athletes on Wednesday morning in Intramuros.
That means that the SEA Games medalist will receive double the amount they stand to receive under Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001.

Under the law, a SEA Games gold medalist receives a cash incentive of P300,000, silver medalist P150,000, and bronze medalist P60,000 taken from the National Sports Development Fund of the Philippine Sports Commission.
Medallist of team sports will divide the amount for the event among the members for the event with less than five participants, with an event with five or more participants getting 25 percent of the amount.
Marcos Jr. is proud of the accomplishment of Team Philippines where it placed sixth in the medal standings after winning 50 golds, 73 silvers, and 154 bronzes.
“It is always an honor and a joy to be surrounded by high-achieving athletes like we have today. You are a shining example of what can be done with discipline, with commitment, with passion, with sacrifice and it shows that we can achieve what others might think is impossible,” said Marcos Jr.
