THE Philippines opens its campaign in the limited field women’s volleyball tournament in the 30th Southeast Asian Games campaign against Vietnam.
The Filipinas, led by Aby Marano, take on the Vietnamese on Dec. 3 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Only four countries will see action in the SEA Games women’s volleyball tournament as Singapore withdrew.
That leaves the Philippines, 11-time defending champion Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia competing for the medals.
The Philippine women’s team also has Majoy Baron, Kalei Mau, Mika Reyes, Mylene Paat, Rhea Dimaculangan, Maddie Madayag, Ces Molina, Dawn Macandili, Kath Arado, Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. Secretary General Ariel Paredes bared that Singapore won’t be able to participate as he and national team program head Peter Cayco and Fr. Vic Calvo on Letran arrived in Tokyo on Saturday to check on the progress of the women’s volleyball team’s 12-day training camp.
The four remaining squads will clash in a single round robin, where the top two squads will play in the gold medal match, while the third and fourth placers dispute the bronze.
The Filipina spikers battle Thailand on Dec. 5 and Indonesia on Dec. 7.
