THE New Clark City aquatics and athletics centers were finally used for the first time in an official competition.
The first Philippine National Open Swimming Championships opened on Saturday at the 2,000-seater aquatics center and will run until September 3, while the final leg of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (Patafa) Weekly Relays were held on Sunday at the athletics center which can seat 20,000 spectators.
Both venues will be used for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games later this year.

“Before, these facilities were just a dream. Now, I’m happy to see our athletes training here as they make their country proud in the upcoming biennial games,” said Bases Conversion Development Authority president and CEO Vince Dizon.
“The facilities are proof that government is serious in providing our athletes with a sports center that is truly world-class,” Dizon said.
During the competitions, the access road from the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) to New Clark City was also opened. The road was built for easy access to the New Clark City when the SEA Games is held.
