NEW CLARK CITY – Natalie Uy and Willie Morrison III turned in record shattering performances, while the mixed relay team pulled off a dramatic win on the day Team Philippines surpassed its target projection in athletics competitions of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Uy completed a sweep in pole vault for the host following her triumph in the women’s event behind a leap of 4.25 meters to the delight of the big Sunday crowd at the New Clark City Stadium.
She erased the previous record owned by Sukanya Chomchuendee of Thailand (4.21 meters) and kept pace with male counterpart EJ Obiena, who won the men’s side on Saturday night.

Morrison meanwhile, did the same thing in men’s shot put with a heave of 18.38 meters, improving the old mark of 17.74 meters of Thai Polyiam Chatchawal.
Sarah Dequinan also had her moment when she bagged the gold in the women’s heptathlon with a total points of 5,101. The 26-year-old trackster became the first Filipina to rule the event since Elma Muros-Posadas in 2001.
And then there was the mixed relay team of Eric Cray, Kristine Knott, Anfernee Lopena and Eloiza Luzon, which came from behind and beat Thailand for the gold that highlighted the Filipino tracksters’ campaign in Day Three of action on the track.
Team Philippines now has a total of seven golds in athletics or one more than the six earlier projected by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (Patafa).
Other golds were provided Christine Hallasgo in women’s marathon and Knott in the women’s 200-meter run.
It could have been more had Knott topped the century dash and Cray not disqualified in the men’s 400-meter run during the early morning heats.

Knott instead settled for the silver to add to the three of the Filipinos along with one bronze.
The country is now also running second in athletics behind Vietnam with eight golds, four silvers, and eight bronzes, while Thailand fell at third with six golds, 10 silvers and nine bronzes.
