SUBIC, Zambales — Michael Comaling bagged the gold in the beach triathlete event of the 30th Southeast Asian Games modern pentathlon on Friday at the Subic Boardwalk.

Coming off a seventh place yesterday during the laser-run individual event, the Ormoc City, Leyte native clocked 17 minutes and 8.87 seconds to dominate the shoot-swim-run event.

Phurit Yohuang of Thailand claimed the silver (17:19.83) and Muhammad Taufik of Indonesia settled for bronze (17:37.76).

"Actually, kaya namang ipanalo ‘yung laban kahapon pero hindi ako kumain," said Comaling, 19. "And I learned my lesson sa mga coach na nag-inspire sa akin na today learn from it, forget the past, and focus on today.

"That's why kumain ng marami and ngayon gave me energy to win,” he added.
