SUBIC, Zambales — Michael Comaling bagged the gold in the beach triathlete event of the 30th Southeast Asian Games modern pentathlon on Friday at the Subic Boardwalk.
Coming off a seventh place yesterday during the laser-run individual event, the Ormoc City, Leyte native clocked 17 minutes and 8.87 seconds to dominate the shoot-swim-run event.
Phurit Yohuang of Thailand claimed the silver (17:19.83) and Muhammad Taufik of Indonesia settled for bronze (17:37.76).
"Actually, kaya namang ipanalo ‘yung laban kahapon pero hindi ako kumain," said Comaling, 19. "And I learned my lesson sa mga coach na nag-inspire sa akin na today learn from it, forget the past, and focus on today.
"That's why kumain ng marami and ngayon gave me energy to win,” he added.
Comaling's teammate Dexter Ardemer came in seventh with a time of 22:05.51.
In the women’s division, Princess Arbilon fell short of a podium finish, coming in at fourth place (21:29.36).
Indonesia had a 1-2 finish courtesy of Dea Salsabila Putri, who won her second gold (19:52.73), and Cintya Nariska (20:02.02).
Thailand's Sanruthai Aransiri (20:50.97) completed the podium.
The mixed team relay of the triathle takes place on Saturday.
