SHOOTING finally found its target for Team Philippines in the 30th Southeast Asian Games as Marly Martir spearheaded a two-gold romp Wednesday at the Marine Corps Training Center in Taguig.
Martir, 43, topped the WA 1500 PPC women’s individual with an total of 1450-60x after five rounds to beat Indonesian Pratwi Kartikasari (1445-62x) for the gold.
PPC stands for precision pistol competition.
She later teamed up with Franchette Shayne Quiroz and Elvie Baldovino to pool 4320-161x , enough to beat Kartikasari and the Indonesian squad (4313-164x).
It was the first gold for Filipina shooters in the biennial meet since Baldovino won the individual precision pistol event in the 2015 edition in Singapore.
Celedonio Tayao gave shooting its first medal in the meet with a silver finish in the Mixed Benchcrest Air Rifle competition, won by Tirano Baja of Indonesia.
Yusof Yusliana Mohd of Malaysia clinched the bronze in the women’s individual precision competition, edging out Quiroz, 1441-49x-1441-48x.
The team bronze was won by the Malaysians behind Mohd, Halim Azeera Abd, and Salzuriana Zubir with a total of 4279-143x.
