MARGIELYN Didal has guaranteed a gold medal in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games to be hosted by the Philippines in November
“SEA Games, 100 percent,” said Didal after she receiving the Athlete of the Year award from the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) on Tuesday night.
Skateboarding will be making its SEA Games debut in 2019, a year after Didal gave the Philippines its first-ever Asian Games gold in the women’s street event.
Incidentally, skateboarding will also be making its first-ever appearance in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where Didal hopes to compete.
But to qualify for the Olympics, Didal said she will have to gain enough ranking points from qualifying tournaments around the world.
“Gusto ko mag-qualify sa Olympics. More on focus tayo sa SEA Games dito sa Manila pero more on goal natin is Olympics,” said Didal.
Didal said she is set to compete this May in a London event where ranking points will be at stake. Last January, Didal competed in an Olympic qualification event in Rio De Janeiro where she placed 14th.
The top three placers in the four World Skate World Championship events and 16 others based on world rankings until June 2020 will make it to Tokyo.
