THE Philippines opened its football campaign in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games with a bang as the men's under-22 and women's teams came up with opening day victories on Tuesday night in Malaysia.
The men's under-22 team defeated Cambodia, 2-0, while the Malditas edged host Malaysia, 2-1, at the UiTEM Shah Alam Stadium to pick up victories in the opening day of the Filipino booters' campaign.
Raymart Cubon and Kouichi Belgira converted the goals for the men's under-22 team, while Camille Rodriguez scored the marginal goal in the 74th minute to give the Malditas the victory over the host team.
Team captain Patrice Impelido struck first in the extra time in the first half for the Malditas but Malaysia equalized on a goal by Dadree in the 54th minute.
On Thursday, the Philippine men's Under-22 team faces Indonesia at 8:45 p.m. while the Malditas facing Vietnam at 4 p.m.
