DEFENDING champion Vietnam blanked the Philippines, 7-0, to put an end to the Malditas’ bid of bagging a medal in the 27th Southeast Asian Games women’s football tournament in Mandalay, Myanmar.
The Malditas couldn’t muster a goal in the match against their powerhouse counterpart as they ended their campaign on a disappointing note.
Vietnam bagged the gold medal the last time women's football was held in the SEA Games in 2009.
The Filipina booters, who earlier lost to host Myanmar, 0-2, failed to meet up expectations after being the lone football team allowed to compete by the Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission Task Force in the biennial meet.
The Under-23 Azkals men’s team and the futsal squads were not allowed to compete in the SEA Games following the Task Force’s criteria that only gold or potential gold winners will be allowed to see action in the event.
