THE Philippine women’s football team will have one less opponent in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games preliminaries after Indonesia pulled out of the tournament at the last minute, according to a report by Aseanfootball.org.
The report also stated that Timor Leste has also pulled out although organizers said there will be no re-draw as the tournament is now down to six teams.
Even with Indonesia’s pullout, the Malditas will still have to go through reigning champion Vietnam and bronze medalist Myanmar in Group A to reach the semifinals.
Group B will now have 2009 silver medalist Thailand, Laos, and Malaysia.
The pullout has led to a change in schedules but the Malditas will still be playing Myanmar on Tuesday. They will battle Vietnam on Friday.
The top two teams in each group will play in the semifinals.
The women’s football tournament, making a return in the SEA Games after it was not held in 2011, will be played in Mandalay, about six hours away from the main hub of Naypyitaw.
