MAC Belo remains on standby mode for Gilas Pilipinas' Southeast Asian Games campaign in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia like a soldier ready to go to battle.

The Gilas cadet said he continues to practice with the team even though there's no assurance he will be part of the national team tasked to defend the SEA Games gold in the Malaysian capital starting on August 20.

"Wala pa namang sinasabi sa akin. Basta naka-ready lang ako," said the Blackwater rookie on Thursday during the formal sendoff for Team Philippines at the HallOne Golden Pavilion at the CITEM-DTi.

"Nasa management na yun. Sila na bahalang mag-desisyon."

Belo, 24, is on standby as a possible late call-up for Gilas in lieu of fellow cadet Carl Bryan Cruz, who is currently playing for the other national team in the Fiba Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon.

In the event the Gilas team makes it to the semis and finals of the Fiba Asia Cup, Cruz and Fil-German Christian Standhardinger would have to fly straight from Lebanon to Malaysia.

That will also mean missing the national team's first game in the SEA Games against rival Thailand.

"Our intent is for Mac Belo to take the place of CBC (Carl Bryan Cruz) in the SEA Games," said coach Chot Reyes.

Although everything is easier said than done, there's really no harm in trying. Belo will still go with the team to Kuala Lumpur even if his situation is uncertain.

"Ganun lang talaga siguro (kung di ako makalaro). Konting sakripisyo lang," said the former FEU star. " Basta ready lang talaga ako."
