KRISTEL Macrohon delivered the second weightlifting gold for the Philippines as she ruled the women's 71 kg category on Wednesday in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The 23-year-old Filipina weighlifter lifted a total of 216 kg from 93 in snatch and 123 in clean and jerk to follow in the footsteps of Olympian Hidilyn Diaz, who reigned supreme in her division on Monday.
Macrohon drew cheers from the crowd when she lifted 123 in clean and jerk to vault to the top of the ranks.
It was initially ruled as a no lift, but judges eventually counted her third attempt to move in front.
Vietnam's Thi Van Nguyen tried to go for broke in her final attempt, but was unable to carry 125 kg in clean and jerk. She totalled 214 to settle for silver.
Tsabitha Ramadani of Indonesia got the bronze in the weight class.
