SAN Fernando, Pampanga – Kiyomi Watanabe brought the Philippines its second gold medal the Southeast Asian Games 2019 Judo event on Thursday after ousting Myanmar’s Chu Myat Noe Wai with an ippon in the -63kg category.

The 23-year-old lady judoka could only express her gratitude for the Filipino fans' consistent support in her journey to sustaining her SEA Games title.

“Thank you for the support. The support from the home crowd was great. I’m happy. Thank you so much.”

In the -52kg category, Khrizzie Pabulayan ousted Malaysia’s Xiuan Goh with an ippon with 1:16 mark, to settle for bronze together with Vietnam.

Hence losing her first match, bronze felt like gold for the former UAAP MVP having represented the Philippines in the competition.

“‘Yung first match ko, sobrang grabe talaga ‘yung kaba ko. Tsaka sobrang stiff ko, ‘di ko nagawa ‘yung gusto kong gawin kaya talo ako sa first match," she said. "Pero masaya kasi syempre na-represent ko 'yung Philippines tsaka nanalo."
